Being a Yorkshire wedding videographer means travel. Because Yorkshire is big. It’s the biggest county in England. No other county in the UK gets divided up into North, South, West and East ridings. When you tell people you’re in Yorkshire filming someone’s wedding ceremony, you have to qualify where abouts you are! Is it a warehouse wedding as far south Sheffield or a seaside celebration in Whitby? I’m based in Manchester, but almost every other weekend in peak wedding season I pack our cameras tripods and microphones into the car. We say Bon Voyage to the drizzly grey of our hometown. We say “Hello!” to the hills, peaks, moors and Dales of “God’s own country” …and we love it. If it weren’t for the family we have here we’d probably be eyeing up houses in Skipton

Yorkshire weddings never look the same. I’ve captured nuptial ceremonies at nearly a hundred different Yorkshire wedding venues and I’m pretty sure that we’ve not been to all of them. I’ve captured traditional top hats and tails in a Sheffield stately home. I’ve filmed a bride and groom competing on arcade games at an old Engine shed in Leeds. I’ve sampled Michelin star dining with couples on the North Yorkshire moors. There are so may different styles of weddings on offer in Yorkshire, it really all comes down to the personalities of those getting married. We’ve tried to pick up a little of these personalities on film in our wedding videos as best we can.

What follows are some of my favourite weddings set in the Yorkshire countryside. My style on the day is pretty hands off. I like to let your wedding play out naturally. When it comes to editing I find a way through all of the documented footage to find a narrative and a story that says something about who you are, the people you were with and the place that you got married.
Middleton lodge wedding video : Georgia & Jake
Middleton lodge near the Yorkshire dales could be described as a very versatile wedding venue. We have captured quite a few weddings there over the years and each one has been had a very different feel.
Middleton lodge has a number of separate spaces. There’s the incredible Orangery and Gardens, the tastefully refurbished stables and the beautiful house itself.
Georgia and Jake’s wedding at Middleton lodge was really a grand tour of the beautiful venue. The morning started at the dairy and farm houses before moving onto the main house whilst Georgia put on her wedding dress. Guests were seated out on the lawn for the vows before heading spending the afternoon and evening in the light and bright surrounds of the fig house. Every wedding we’ve filmed there has been a joy to edit.
Hornington Manor wedding video: Jess & Tom
It does not get more Yorkshire than an “eh up” according to Tom. Family had come all over to world to witness Jess and Tom tie the knott at Hornington manor. They were a couple that really knew what they wanted and really knew how to have fun. The Sun was shining. The prosecco was flowing. The wedding reception was rocking. The Karaoke was… er tuneful? And our cameras were rolling.
Hornington manor sits between Leeds and York. It’s a cracking of an all-in-one wedding venue. The bride and groom have the venue all to themselves from the night before, to the day after the wedding. There’s no need to travel around as the preparations, ceremony, reception, speeches and celebration can all be acommodated in the manor.
Hornington manor has the big draw that it has a field full of shepherds huts. These huts overlook a field that actually has sheep in it. So, It’s probably the closest that your guests will ever come to living out their Yorkshire sheep farming fantasies.
the historic yorkshire landscape
Capturing weddings in Yorkshire develops a particular fondness for the landscape. The Drive over the pennines headed towards Leeds is one of my favourite motorway drives in England. I know that sounds weird, “who has a favourite motorway drive?!” But on a Sunny day or a misty winters morning, the countryside headed into Yorkshire looks spectacular.
It frequently takes me back to my childhood. We went on holiday in Yorkshire a LOT! My parents had always been in love with the dales. I have cloudy memories of steam trains on the N.Yorks railways. I remember Fish and chips on Whitby pier and long coast walks near Robin hood’s bay. I lost a Pokemon card somewhere along the river Ouse.
Whilst I no longer go camping in the Dales and moors Rebecca and I visit on a regular basis. We love exploring towns and cities. York is a bit of a dream for that. We love the historic close-knit buildings of the shambles. We’ve walked as far around the city walls as you’re able to. I’ve taken a camera into York Minster multiple times and not even the widest lenses seem to do it justice. We’re both café lovers and so heading West to Harrogate’s many tea room’s and eateries have a particular draw for us as well.
Travelling around the vast county for work, I now know a lot of the best places to stay in Yorkshire if you want a good nights sleep and an even better breakfast. I could also probably tell you exactly which food places are open for a quick post-wedding bite on the way home too. Though most of those start with a Mc
Thirsk lodge barns wedding video : Becca & Ed
Nestled in the gap between Nidderdale and the moors is a barn. It is a beautiful barn. A well-crafted piece of arable architecture. Thirsk lodge barns is a fairly new wedding venue. But it’s a firm favourite already.
This wedding video makes my favourites list as the location is just so beautiful. Thirsk lodge barns play with the light so well that it’s a videographer’s dream. But also, Becca and Ed’s story is all about food… and I am a big fan of good food. I’ve not been to many weddings where the bride and groom have entertainted their guests at the reception with an Oyster bar.
Newby hall wedding video: Eleanor & Luke
Newby Hall is very Well known in North Yorkshire, particularly if you’re a classic car lover. Newby also makes for a beautiful wedding venue. Eleanor and Luke’s wedding will always stick in mind for all the creative elements they bought to the day. The bride and Groom had a hand in nearly all of the creative lements of the day. Eleanor’s wedding dress was custom made and she made her own tiara. The Bride even contacted the national gallery to get permission to put her fiance’s favourite painting on a waistcoat for him.
New be hally weddings tend to have a marquee on the back lawn to make the most of the views of the hall. Eleanor and Luke chose to have a transparent marquee. Guests could take in the gorgeous views over the countryside as well as gaze upon the splendour of the hall.
I love weddings at Newby hall, but I’ve still yet to ride the miniature railway that follows the bank of the river Ure.

Crathorne hall wedding video : Sharon & Adam
Sharon and Adam started off their day in Harrogate, getting married at St Marks Church.
They then their whisked all of their wedding party and guests North to Crathorn hall. They were treated to local Yorkshire-made Ice-cream, garden games, sparklers and beautiful weather. We as film-makers were treated to stunning interiors and a beautiful sunset peeking through the trees.
It was also a treat to video some of the best first dance choreography we’ve seen in a while. Which was immidiately followed by a packed out dancefloor and some more questionable dance moves from the bridesmaids and groomsmen.
